Edubrain.ai Survey Finds Many Gen Z Adults Using AI for Emotional Support and Daily Interaction

Edubrain.ai has released findings from a new survey examining how young adults in the United States interact with artificial intelligence in their daily lives. The survey of 2,000 Americans ages 18 to 28 suggests that AI is increasingly used not only for information or productivity tasks, but also for emotional conversation and personal support.

According to the survey results, many respondents reported engaging with AI-powered chatbots for companionship-style conversations, relationship guidance, or emotional reflection. While these interactions often begin as casual exchanges, some users said they gradually rely on AI tools for regular communication and advice.

Nearly half of respondents (49%) reported engaging in emotional conversations with AI systems. Among those who use chatbots regularly, 68% said they have experienced some level of emotional attachment to their interactions with AI tools.

The survey also found that AI interactions are becoming a routine activity for many young adults. More than half of respondents (51%) said they interact with AI systems daily or almost daily. In terms of time spent, 53% reported spending more than 30 minutes per day interacting with AI-powered tools, while 16% said they spend more than an hour per day.

Harry Southworth, Head of AI Development at Edubrain Helper AI, said the findings reflect how conversational AI is evolving beyond basic functionality.

“As AI systems become more advanced, people are exploring a wider range of ways to interact with them,” Southworth said. “Our survey indicates that many young adults are using conversational AI for reflection, advice, and everyday dialogue.”

The research also explored how users engage with different types of AI platforms. According to the findings, 65% of respondents prefer general-purpose chatbots for personal conversations, while 51% reported using platforms designed for more personalized or relationship-style interactions.

When asked about realism in AI conversations, 32% of respondents said their interactions felt “very realistic,” while another 32% described the experience as “moderately realistic.”

The survey also examined user behavior related to AI services and payments. Approximately 52% of respondents indicated they would consider paying for AI tools that provide personalized conversational experiences or emotional support features.

In addition, the survey suggests that AI interactions occur across different relationship contexts. Forty-three percent of respondents said they have used conversational AI while in long-term relationships or marriages. Meanwhile, 42% reported keeping their AI interactions private from their partners, while 35% said they have discussed their AI use openly with a significant other.

Southworth noted that conversational AI is becoming a subject of broader discussion as digital technologies become more integrated into everyday life.

“AI tools are increasingly part of how people communicate, learn, and explore ideas,” he said. “Understanding how younger generations use these technologies can help inform responsible AI development and future design decisions.”

The survey was conducted online among 2,000 U.S. adults ages 18–28 in early 2026 to examine behavioral trends related to conversational AI usage.
