Nadrich Accident Injury Lawyers Calls for Stronger AI Safety Measures Following Character.AI Teen Restrictions

Nadrich Accident Injury Lawyers, a California-based personal injury law firm, is urging the artificial intelligence industry to adopt stronger safety safeguards following Character.AI’s recent decision to prohibit teenagers from engaging in open-ended, back-and-forth conversations with AI chatbots.

The platform’s policy change comes amid mounting legal scrutiny, including multiple Character.AI lawsuits claiming the company failed to protect vulnerable users and may have contributed to incidents involving suicide and self-harm among minors.

“These lawsuits highlight major safety gaps in AI systems and underscore the serious risks vulnerable users face when AI tools fail to recognize or respond appropriately to mental health crises,” said Jeffrey Nadrich, founding attorney of Nadrich Accident Injury Lawyers. “Stronger safety measures are needed across the AI industry to prevent young users from being harmed.”

One lawsuit filed in 2024 alleges that a 14-year-old boy died by suicide after repeatedly expressing suicidal thoughts to a Character.AI chatbot. According to the complaint, the chatbot failed to provide crisis resources or safety warnings and instead repeatedly raised the topic of suicide and asked whether the boy had a suicide plan.

A separate lawsuit filed in September 2025 alleges that a 13-year-old girl died by suicide after telling a Character.AI chatbot that she was experiencing suicidal thoughts. The lawsuit claims that rather than offering mental health resources or escalating the concern, the chatbot encouraged continued use of the platform.

Nadrich Accident Injury Lawyers emphasizes that as AI tools become increasingly integrated into daily life—particularly among children and teenagers—companies must implement effective safeguards, crisis detection mechanisms, and responsible escalation protocols.

“Technology companies should not wait for tragedies or lawsuits to force change,” Nadrich added. “Protecting young users must be a foundational responsibility, not an afterthought.”

The firm encourages families who are concerned about AI-related harm or who believe a digital platform may have contributed to injury or loss to seek qualified legal guidance as the industry works to adopt stronger safety standards.
