DALLAS, TX
RedPresswire – In a moment that left viewers breathless, Ron White — two-time USA Memory Champion, U.S. Navy veteran, and Afghanistan war veteran — sat before the camera on the Shawn Ryan Show, closed his eyes, and did something he had never done before in over a decade of performing this tribute: he recited, entirely from memory, the rank, first name, and last name of all 2,459 American service members killed in the Afghanistan War — without a wall, without a marker, and without a single note.
White began memorizing the names in 2012, a process that took 10 months and required committing over 7,500 words to memory — each name, each rank, in the exact order of death. From 2013 to 2021, he performed this tribute more than 30 times across the country, writing the names by hand on a 52-foot memorial wall that echoes the Vietnam Veterans Memorial — at country music concerts, sporting events, military bases, and historic sites — delivering a simple, powerful message:
“You are not forgotten.”
But the appearance on the Shawn Ryan Show marked a historic first. For the first time in the history of this tribute, White did not write the names on a wall. He simply sat, closed his eyes, and spoke each name aloud — one by one — for all 2,459 fallen. No props. No performance. Just a veteran honoring the people he served alongside and the thousands who came after.
“If I was a painter, I would have painted a portrait. If I was a singer, I would have written a song,” said White. “It only made sense to use my memory. Every name I say is a life— a family — a sacrifice that the American public deserves to remember.”
